Wag & Fetch sits down with Raider, a Rough Collie living in Riley, New York, for a one-on-one interview.
So tell me what your typical day is like.
Well, my owner’s a web programmer who works from home, so most of my day is spent napping or checking periodically to see if he’s actually still alive. If he is, I go and do my rounds around the house, checking for any personal affects that I can chew up. All kidding aside, I’m a lucky dog to be able to see my owner as much as I do. Most dogs can’t say that.
Do you have a favorite toy?
That would have to be my squeaky elephant from Walmart. It’s made with just the right amount of resistance for a really satisfying chew, and because it’s from Walmart, I don’t have to feel guilty about completely destroying it.
Would you feel guilty if it were from Bloomingdale’s?
No.
Who’s influenced you the most in your life?
Ray’s grandmother is definitely a strong figure in my life. Every time I’m at her house during mealtimes, she lets me knock food off her fork by nudging the back of her arm. Then it’s good eatin’ off the floor. She’s taught me a lot about determination and personal sacrifice, as well as how completely impractical utensils are.
OK, so I have to ask, do people ever call you “Lassie” to be funny?
(Rolls his eyes) It happens all the time. It’s usually something like “What’s that, Lassie? Timmy’s stuck in the well?” I try to be good-humored about it, but depending on the day, I’ll show them what 78 lbs. of love feels like. I bet Lassie didn’t do that.
